The Crossroads Bible Experience FAQ
What is it?
The Crossroads Bible Experience is an exciting 8-week, church-wide adventure in the New Testament. A special reading plan will lead us through 27 Books of the Bible. For 8 weeks, beginning February 2 and 3, The Crossroads Bible Experience will be at the heart of our weekend teaching series, and will be the focus of all our Life Groups.
What an exciting thought—before Easter, potentially our entire church will have read through the whole New Testament!
When does it start?
Everyone will begin reading on Monday, January 28 and finish by Palm Sunday. Life Groups begin the week of February 4.
Which Bible should I use?
We are encouraging everyone to purchase a copy of The Books of the Bible. It is a specially formatted New Testament, without the chapters and verse numbers that have been added over the centuries. Furthermore, the books are somewhat reordered—grouped by author and according to their historical context. This format makes it easier to understand what you are reading, and to experience the Bible’s power and meaning.
Where do I get a copy of this Bible?
Paperback versions of this Bible are available in the atrium before and after weekend services, or the church office during regular office hours (Tuesday through Friday, 9am-5pm). The cost is $10 per Bible.
In addition, you may choose to engage the Bible in these formats—included in the $10—by accessing this link: cberesources.com/nt.
- Audio/mp3: download an audio format for your iPod/mp3 player, or to burn to CD. Listen in your car while commuting, or throughout the day.
- eBook: the eBook is compatible with most e-reader and mobile devices (e.g., iPhone and iPad). Kindle and Nook editions may be purchased separately from Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
- Kids Audio Version:a kid-friendly, downloadable audio version.
What is the reading plan?
When you purchase the Bible, it will include a bookmark, imprinted with the reading plan. Every week, you’ll read about 50-60 pages. The plan is set up to read each weekday, allowing the weekend for catch-up.
How do I get the most out of this experience?
First of all, don’t miss a single weekend. Senior Pastor John Smith, along with our teaching team, will teach the landmark texts and themes of the New Testament, and challenge us to apply what we learn to our daily lives.
The CBE will be much richer if you experience it with others. Many people stop reading the Bible because they read it in isolation, or just read snippets and don’t understand the larger story. Plus, you’ll see things that others might not. That’s why it’s best to do this experience with others in a Life Group.
How do I find a Life Group to join?
If you are not in a Life Group, simply attend the Life Group Connection Event on Tuesday, January 29, 6:30-8pm. It will be a fun evening of meeting Life Group leaders, and signing up for a group that fits your life. Childcare is available (free) during that event. For more information, see Life Group Connection Event FAQ.
Can I join a Life Group anytime, or do I need to start at the beginning?
Ideally, you’ll start with everyone else so you don’t miss a single week. But if you didn’t, check in with a Next Step team member (in the bright blue shirts) in the atrium following a weekend service. They’ll direct you to an open group.
How do I get started?
Purchase your Bible this weekend, and sign up for the Life Group Connection Event.
