Crossroads has 20+ men and women trained and serving as Stephen Ministers. We also have a waiting list of people who need care. We look forward to training and commissioning a new group of Stephen Ministers, so we can care for more people in our church and community.
The 50-hour training teaches a variety of topics such as listening, Christian assertiveness, maintaining boundaries in caregiving, grief, growth and more. The training is distinctively Christian and focuses on God as the one who cures—as we care.
When the Stephen Ministers have completed the training, they will be commissioned and ready to begin their ministry. Working with supervision and support, these Stephen Ministers will be available to meet regularly with people experiencing these challenges and many more:
- Loss of a loved one
- Sickness
- Parenting challenges
- Life transition
- Job loss
- Natural disasters
Stephen Ministers commit to at least two years of service, continuing education and supervision. Many Stephen Ministers enjoy their work so much that they choose to serve more than two years.
While being a Stephen Minister requires commitment of time and effort, it also brings joy and fulfillment. Stephen Ministry may be one of the most rewarding challenges you will ever embrace. In addition, you will use the skills you learn, not only in your caring ministry, but also in your everyday relationships with family, friends, neighbors and coworkers.
Think and pray about this opportunity. For more information, call or email Vicky Bryant at [email protected] or 970.203.9201 x8111. Applications for the next training are always being accepted.
