When Jesus arrived on the planet, he ushered in a new age of compassion and justice. The Book of Luke tells us that Jesus announced his mission on the Sabbath day, in a synagogue in Nazareth. Jesus stood up, took the scroll of Isaiah and said: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.
After his resurrection, Jesus empowered his followers to continue his work of announcing salvation, feeding the hungry, serving the helpless, caring for the sick and confronting injustice by teaching and living out God’s values with people near and far.
Crossroads’ Compassion and Justice (CJ) Group
The CJ Group exists to help all of us live out this mission of Jesus Christ and the kingdom values Jesus taught.
CJ meetings are the first Sunday of every month (unless a holiday)
from 5-7pm at Crossroads Church in room 144
Next meeting: Sunday, August 1
Jeff Dillon and Becca Strait with nightlight.org will present on helping children, domestic and international, find loving families. Dinner will be served, and newcomers are welcome.
Group participants range from Crossroads staff and volunteers to community and church leaders who work with a variety of non-profit organizations. CJ seeks to provide Crossroads and community members with a supportive place where we can explore and enhance our God-given desire and skill—demonstrating God’s priorities locally and abroad.
To date, the CJ group has organized outreach and relief work in places such as China, Africa and the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina; and we are involved in local initiatives such as Hope in Action, Project One and Loveland Habitat for Humanity.
The CJ group is open to everyone.
