Love for Sinners and Saints

March 28, 2015, By: Jimmy Scruggs

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
We had a wonderful night last Friday (Good Friday) at CR/Crossroads. It was a special night of worship, celebration, communion, and the Cross. As I listened to birthday stories, and gave my own story, I kept focused on one main theme–Love. When I first started my recovery I wasn’t so sure about love, I thought God had abandoned me, my shame and guilt was too much to bear. I hoped that God loved me but I had so many questions and doubts I didn’t know what to think anymore. We all go through the struggle of the sinner and the saint, for we are both. What I have found most important is that God loves us completely, the good and the bad. Until I came to accept his perfect love I was hampered in my ability to love. God doesn’t love me because I love him; I am first loved so I can love. That is the way of true humility. As great as I think God is, he is so much greater. As much as I want to shape him to fit my life, he shapes me to fit his. As we live out our Christian lives our journey is a process of obedience to the love, which is found in Jesus, staying focused on this one thing is the key to living a fulfilled life here on earth and a forever life in heaven. Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law? Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:36-40 Peace be with you. Dana
